Features of Cold Forgings

Cost Effectiveness
Cold forging cuts down on tooling and equipment costs because heating equipment is not necessary and there is minimal need for secondary processing. Once a workpiece is formed, it is complete and requires minimal finishing. This saves on the cost of labor and tooling.

Fast Production
Cold forging is a simple process where a finished part is produced instantly. Thanks to automation, production time takes only seconds.

Environmentally Friendly
The entire process of cold forging produces minimal waste. Flash material that is trimmed off can be recycled.

High Production Output
The high manufacturing speed of cold forging can produce as many as 50 parts per minute up to over 450 pieces per hour. The speed of the process is only influenced by the shape and configuration of the part.

Wide Choice of Metals
Cold forging is suitable for a wide range of metals including hard metals like stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel as well as soft metals such as brass, aluminum, and copper.

The Cold Forging Process

Cutting the Material

A proper heat treatment carried out by the steelmaker softens the bars before delivery. Cold forging isn't possible with all steel grades. Thus, the carbon content must be less than 0.5 percent, and the work hardening rate must be acceptable.

Forging Technique

The material is inserted in a series of dies, one after the other until the required form is achieved. Mechanical or hydraulic presses, both horizontal and vertical, are used to apply the pushing force.

Lubricant Is Applied

Lubricating the workpiece beforehand will protect it from sticking to the die and lower the temperature during the molding process, reaching 250° to 450°.

Transport

Since cold-forged pieces won't need additional heat treatment, they are either machined in the warehouse or delivered directly to the clients.

FAQ

Q: What are the benefits of cold forging?

A: Cold forging is a flexible and efficient manufacturing process that offers many advantages such as improved mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy, material conservation and the ability to manufacture complex parts.

Q: What is the difference between hot and cold forging?

A: The cold forging manufacturing process increases the strength of a metal through strain hardening at a room temperature. On the contrary the hot forging manufacturing process keeps materials from strain hardening at high temperature, which results in optimum yield strength, low hardness and high ductility.

Q: Is cold forging strong?

A: Cold forging improves the mechanical properties and structural integrities of metal, by increasing the density, leading to components that are significantly stronger and more durable. This is crucial for infrastructure and utility projects where reliability and longevity are paramount.

Q: What are the techniques of cold forging?

A: Cold forging uses a displacement process to shape the material into the desired shape. Compressive force squeezes the metal between a punch and die at room temperature until the material conforms to the die's contours. Cold forging techniques include rolling, pressing, drawing, spinning, heading, and extruding.

Q: Can you make my designs?

A: Yes, OEM/ODM is welcome, pls feel free to send us pictures. If necessary, we can keep your design be protected under law.

Q: Can I get discounts?

A: Yes, for big order, old customer and frequent customers, we give reasonable discounts.

Q: How about the sample policy?

A: We can provide free sample. However, you have to pay the cost of courier by express like: DHL, TNT, UPS and FEDEX.
